I read this book as a child and I loved it。 In fact， I read several of Shel Silverstein’s books。 Now， as an adult who still enjoys reading children’s books， I didn’t enjoy this one as much。 It is dark humor which he is famous for but perhaps my tastes have changed because I find it too dark for me and I would not hand it to my children。

Where the Sidewalk Ends is one of my favorite poetry book that I have read。 I remember reading it over and over again when I was in elementary school because the poems and illustrations were so fun to read。 This book would be a great way to introduce poetry to your class and show the many different ways that poems can be written。

This book of poetry is more so to get readers to start thinking of what the meaning of the words。 Though there are poems that are telling a story， there are other poems that get you to have to think about what the words may mean。
